“TODAY, AUGUST 26: The twelfth annual missionary conference (RoMisCon) begins at Deva. Young adults are gathered from several part of Romania to ascertain their call into Christian Service overseas. This year the coordinator is Rev. George Ritisan., president of APME. Special speakers include the chairman of the European Pentecostal Theological Society from Stockholm, and Pastor Florin Cimpean from Philadelphia Church, Chicago. Several career missionaries are also giving reports from their fields of service. DYM originated these conferences and supports RoMisCon yearly. Please lift up this important conclave in prayer.

IT’S CONVENTION TIME: Thousands of Romanian Christians will meet for prayer and worship at the Gwinett Center, Atlanta, in their 42nd annual USA/Canada convention September 3-5. More than 100 Romanian congregations exist in Canada and the USA.

DISCOVER YOUR MISSION will have a representation at the Atlanta convention. Pastor Florin Cimpean has assigned Rev. Aluculesie to arrange the booth. Photos of the Romanian missionary family will be on display.
Free literature will also be available.

“ROMANIAN LEADERS GOING TO HISTORIC CONFERFENCE: DYM reports that at least three official delgates from Romania will attend the Cape Town International World Missionary Conference, Oct 16-25. They are George Ritisan, President of the Romanian sending agency (APME) as well as Pastor Vasilica Croitor, and Iliana Hrisca, Administrator of the CRST missionary training school at Agigea.

These Romanian delegates are among 4,000 missionary leaders from 200 countries to receive official invitations. The Cape Town, So. Africa conference follows the Lausanne Movement’s two previous meetings held in Switzerland in 1974, and at Manila in 1989. Purposes for discussion at this international follow-up meeting (Lausanne III) include dealing with other faiths, world poverty, HIV/AIDS, and persecution.

The two previous Lausanne conferences resulted in formation of many new international missions partnerships, and an historic focus on the thousand of unreached people groups (ethne). The LCWE (Lausanne Committee on World Evangelization) is a thoroughly evangelical movement, which endeavors to define an holistic approach to missions, combining evangelism with compassion and justice.

Additional thousands of ministers and missionaries will observe the Cape Town sessions electronically through “Globalink,” at hundreds of locations throughout the world…”

“ANOTHER LOOK AT THE HARVEST FIELD: Recent research identifies 3,300 unevangelized “nations” with a populaion of 540 million. There are still 2,251 tribes where there is no part of the Bible in their language. The largest religion on earth is animism, which teaches that physical objects embody spiritual powers. These spirits are basically hostile, and require sacrifice or incantations to appease their anger. A large percentage of all Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists seek the help of a shaman or witch doctor for healing, guidance and peace of mind in daily life. Religion brings bondage — only the gospel sets people free…”

WORLD MISSIONS AND THE CHURCH: “The pilgrim Church is missionary by her very nature. For it is from the mission of the Son and the mission of the Holy Spirit that she takes her origin, in accordance with the decree of God the Father” (Ad Gentes, 1965). These solemn words tell us something profound. World Missions does not arise from Church activity, as though missions were one of the Church’s many good functions. Just the opposite is true, the true Church arises from missions. That is — missions is her origin and her life’s breath. “The Church exists by mission as fire exists by burning” (Emil Brunner).

As we watched world missions ignite within the Romanian church movement, we could see that most pastors thought of world evangelization as an extra obligation that was introduced by some Americans like “Fratale Cameron.” No doubt many Romanian congregations still feel that way. In such places, missions competes with any number of firmly established religious ethnic traditions like weddings, retreats, engagement parties, church trips, construction costs, etc. In these settings, world missions usually loses out. However, here and there we joyfully find a Romanian church that has caught the New Testament Antioch vision which caused the early Church to have explosive growth across the hostile Roman Empire.

What about your church??? If you are still bound by the notion that world misions is merely one of many options, then please ponder the words of Dr. John W. R. Stott; “Our mandate for world evangelism is the whole Bible. Individual Christians and local churches not committed to world evangelization are contradicting, either through blindness or disobedience, an essential part of their God-given identity. The Biblical mandate for world evangelization cannot be escaped.” …

THE 2008 CONVENTION at Novi, MI. is now history; and a very pleasant spiritual memory. Will we ever forget the vivid impression of those giant banners showing the faces of “unreached people” and all the colorful flags representing more than 6.7 billion people living (and dying) on earth?
If you were not able to go, then you missed the “Flag of the nations” procession held Satuday evening, when our Romanian foreign missionaries entered the great hall in national dress. These riveting activities carried out the convention’s missions theme, “The Whole Gospel for the Whole World.”
Most importantly, evening altar services drew hundreds of young people and adults toward a closer walk with the Lord. A final word of special thanks in certainly due to Coordinating Pastor Simion Timbuc for his untiring efforts to lead a great spiritual and world missions-oriented convention.
Discover Your Mission was privileged to assist Pastor Timbuc in preparing for this history-making event. In the Sunday night rally, the Wilsons were graciously honored by receiving a plaque presented to us as “Mr. and Mrs. Mission” to Romanian churches of North America.

LABOR DAY CONVENTION PICNIC: More than 2,000 Romanians and guests enjoyed a great Christian festival under blue skies at a nearby county park. Host church Betesda Romanian Church enlisted all the Detroit churches to provide a great banquet of “mich”, chicken, watermelon and endless home-made deserts.

CAMELIA G. was presented to the convention as our newest Romanian missionary.
Camelia will serve in the Middle-East with Wycliffe Bible Translators. After years of spiritual and classroom preparation, Camelia now looks to the Lord and His faithful people for prayer and regular monthly support. Your decision to become a Faith Promise partner

In the past, we have been pretty free to tell you who they are, and where our missionaries are serving. However, we are advised that the internet can become a real threat to their ministry; and could cause them to be expelled by hostile authorities. PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS: “Amnesty International” has identified Chistians as the world’s largest persecuted minority. Dr. David Barrett reports that about 174,000 people will be killed this year because they are Christians. That is a daily average of 475 martyrs.
We are reminded to pray for the persecuted Church.

WILSONS TO ROMANIA: Wilsons will arrive in Romania Sept. 22, and will begin a period of ministry at “RoMisCon-10″ at Baie-Mare. Cameron will also teach at Eastern Europe Bible College, Oradea, as well as at the Missionary Training School near Constanta. Marvel will celebrate her birthday for the 14th consecutive year while in Romania. this ministry continues because of the faithful prayers and giving of God’s people.

YOUR CITIZENSHIP: What is your citizenship??? Let me tell you about your true citizenship. All born-again people receive a new citizenship that greatly transcends their native-born nationality. Humanly, you were born of “flesh, and the will of man.” Possibly that makes you a Romanian. However, when you were born again, you received a new birth by the Spirit (John 1:13.) you were “naturalized” by grace into a new race, which the Apostle Paul referred to as the “Church of God.” I Cor. 10:32. You became a citizen of a global nationality related through the blood of Christ; and made up of people from many countries with thousands of different backgrounds.. According to missionary statisticians, the population of your new nationality is approximately 700 milliion born-again people living on all continents.
Abraham, our “father” was called out of a great Chaldean city to establish himself as a missionary in Caanan. He lived daily as a witness for the Creator God to all the tribes people of his adopted nation. Abraham did NOT look up all the Chaldean ex-patrioits in Canaan in order to build an Chaldean language church in Canaan. If he had done that, he would have frustrated God’s command to bless all the ethne of earth. He would have built an ethnic fence around his message, effectively shutting out the unevangelized neighborhood. That would have been contrary to God’s revealed plan.
This writer has discovered after a lifetime of ministry, that the more a person is centered on his national identity and traditions - the more difficult it is for that person to perceive the New Testament plan and lifestyle. Of course, I am proud of my native country, which is listed much higher than the USA in “quaility of life.” Nevertheless, I must say with Paul, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world,” (Gal 6:14).
As a Christian, you belong to a whole new race. The world is your parish.

OUR TEAM IN TURKEY: Dan and Perla H., Iacob and Lidia N., and Nicu and Elena S. are serving the Lord in this Muslim country of 76 million people. They need special prayer and faithful support as they do creative witnessing daily. All of these missionaries are graduates of the CRST training school, located at Agigea.
Turkey is known as the world’s largest unreached nation. Although the constitution claims religious freedom — harassment, false accusations, and permit delays hinder their ministry. This nation has the highest rate of violence against women of any Mid-Eastern country. (58% of women, and 51% of wives are subejct to abuse).
About 40% of Turkey’s youths between the ages of 15 and 24 are outside the nation’s educational system and are out of work.
Hundreds of illegal Koranic schools are sponsored in Turkey by petro-dollars from Saudi-Arabia. Free education and meals are provided as incentives to attend. Recently,a Koranic school building collapsed, killing 18 children, and injuring 27 more.
For a thousand years, Turkey was a stronghold of traditional Christianity. In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks, and re-named Istanbul. As recently as one hundred years ago, there were millions of Christians. Today only a handful remain because of genocides and constant persecution.
Nicu and Elena S. reported again this month on their daily activities to witness to Turkish women and men. Elena actually spends hours crocheting with Turkish women each week as a unique means of witness.

INDIA—PERSECUTION: Keep Maria I. and Daniel P. in your prayers. They serve in Bihar State, Nothern India. Anti-Christian sentiment is growing, fuled by a radical, violent movement called Hindutvah. Their goal is to erase all Christian influence from India in the next ten years. In the Eastern state of Orissa, hundreds of Christians have been martyred, thousands of people displaced, and dozens of churches destroyed. Even in highly-Christianized Kerala State (Southwest) there is an increase in persecution. Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoner, and those who are mis-treated as if you yourselves were mistreated,” Heb. 13:3.

LUKE C. BEING INTERVIEWED: One of the best known missionary organizations working in Muslim nations is “Frontiers.” Brother Luca Cretan, who attends Philadelphia Church, Chicago, is being processed for possible asignment to the North-West area of Africa. Luca will attend a Frontiers Orientation School, and later a leadership school in preparation for deployment to one of the Maghrib countries: (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia.) “Frontiers” uses a team or a “colony” approach; and is looking for people who can go to Muslim countries to invest their lives as witnesses. Please add Luca Cretan to your prayer list as he developes a support base for this new ministry..

“STM” — WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
“Short Term Missions” has come under the magnifying glass of missions thinking with articles in several of our most respected missions journals.
The popularity of making brief visits to foreign countries has drawn hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic young people and adults to overseas locations around the world. But what are the results, according to mature field missions leaders???
(1) Most short-termers are not well trained; and can seldom minister effectively
(2) The STMer goes for what he can learn or gain- rather than now much he can give.
(3) Most STMers lack skills to pioneer among the unreached people.
(4) Money used by STM trips decreases avialable support for career missionaries.
(5) Short-term trips are cross-cultural experiences or inter-church tourism - but NOT
missions in the real sense. There is nothing wrong with taking a working vacation, or inter-cultural trip, but do not let it be at the expense of authentic long-term missions to the truly unreached people on God’s heart.

DANIELA CAIDAS: Bro. Utu Tomuta (Genesis Mission, Chicago) reports that Miss Daniela Caidas has gone for an introductory missions term to Bihar State India.
(Eph 6:19-20).

CHRISTMAS-TIME PRAISE: As 2008 comes to an end, we rejoice to report that more Romanian Churches and Christians are responding in Faith Promise giving to Romanian world missions. Since January 1, Discover Your Mission was able to disburse
$252,282.55 overseas to support our foreign and domestic missionaries, and the “Romanian Center for Cross-Cultural Studies.”

MARIANA D.: After seven years of effectve ministry among Turkish Gypsy children at Babadag, Romania, Missionary Mariana is now stationed at Shymkent, Kazakhstan. Mariana serves in a rehabilitation center for youth, and is on a church-planting team with “Operation Mobilization.” As in other Muslim-majoritry nations, radical religious groups are making Christian work more difficult throughout “Turkestan” at this time. Let us be faithful in prayer for our Romanian missionaries, most of whom serve in Muslim countries.

A HEATING SYSTEM FOR ALESD? Discover Your Mission has committed to match funds given for the heating plant at the Gypsy Evangelistic Social Center at Alesd, Romania. This large new center houses a day school for about 150 Gypsy children, as well as a kitchen, a dispensary, and the attractive “Samaria” church auditorium. Total floor area is nearly 9,000 sq ft. Many miracles have taken place through the ministry of this ESC; where the needy ghetto population is about 3,000 people.
Host pastor Ioan Moldovan stresses the urgent need for a heating system as the town faces the prospect of another harsh winter. Total cost for a quality heating plant is about E9,900, or approximately $13.500 at today’s rate of exchange.
DYM will match all offerings dollar-for-dollar designated for this important project.
Cameron was privileged to give the church its name “Samaria” several years ago.
