Saudi Arabia declares destruction of all churches in region

Saudi Arabia (MNN) — Earlier this month, a news report surfaced out of Saudi Arabia that raised the red flag for Christians. Todd Nettleton with Voice of the Martyrs says, “The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia–the top Islamic official in the country of Saudi Arabia–has declared that it is ‘necessary to destroy all the churches of the region.’” Kuwaiti businessmen were clarifying a point of Sharia with the Grand Mufti, says Nettleton. The statement is raising lots of red flags. “The interesting thing about this is that there are no churches in Saudi Arabia. There are no church buildings that are allowed to exist there, so he clearly wasn’t talking only for his own country: he was trying to export this ideology to the surrounding countries.” For the most part, says Nettleton, the Mufti’s statement will be buried. Ask God to continue to intervene and to protect Christ followers in Saudi Arabia. “Also pray that Muslims will come to know Christ,” asks Nettleton. “One of the things that’s happening, not only in Saudi Arabia but across the Middle East, is Muslims encountering Christ through dreams and visions, and other supernatural ways.”

U.S. pastor in jail in Russia

missionRussia (MNN) — A U.S. pastor in Russian has been jailed, and no one’s been talking about it until now. Wade Kusack with Russian Ministries says Pastor Thomas Kang of San Diego, California “has been held for more than five months already in custody on an attempted bribery charge. The bribe was a $30 donation he provided in conjunction with a fine he willfully paid.” Authorities questioned Pastor Kang after he unwittingly hired an Uzbek whose work visa had recently expired. Kusak says, “We can observe increased persecution of all minorities, especially of protestant churches in Russia. And unfortunately, this case is just one more example of local police and local authorities that can do anything they want against protestant minorities. They just go unpunished.” Kusack is in Washington, D.C. to advocate on Pastor Kang’s behalf. Why Church Partnerships Really Matter in Detroit

each_logo_3500-x-1425_whitebg_rgb

“The homey aroma of soup fills a narrow hallway stacked with shelves of bread and crates of potatoes, as Lord of the Harvest Christian Fellowship begins another day of feeding whoever comes.

Associate pastor Janine McLatcher stirs a pot of sausage-lentil soup in the lunch room, enough for the two dozen seniors she expects in a couple hours at her suburban Detroit church.

“They make me do soup,” McLatcher says cheerfully in her bright orange apron. “If I do anything different they don’t like it.”

Out in the hall, Patricia Johnson leans on a cane as she fills two big bags with groceries for herself and two sisters. Five knee surgeries hobble her, but she’s the only one who can drive to this little church in working-class Warren on Detroit’s northern border…” Read The Full Article

Advanced degree, advance the Gospel

missionHaiti (MNN) — Advances to better train Christian leaders in Haiti are underway. Ron Sparks with Baptist Haiti Mission says, “What we are looking forward to starting now, just in the next month, is a Masters of Theological Studies program. So that will add even more to the Biblical and religious grounding of education of some of the pastors and leaders down there.” The hope for this new program is to train leaders on how to effectively teach others. “It’s a big step in the direction of strengthening the church because this makes the Christian leaders down there much more educated and well-grounded in biblical knowledge and principles and it just helps them be stronger individuals.” Pray that the Masters of Theological program will help pastors and Christian leaders spread the Gospel more effectively.
